Dress for Success
For guys, it may not be No. 1 on the list, but for women, dressing
for a date is no small thing. So even if you’re one of those guys who
wants to be liked for himself — ripped jeans and all — consider the
first impression you’re making. Experts say it takes two minutes to
visually absorb someone’s appearance.
“Talk about your once-over,” Dr. Browne quips. “That’s exactly
what’s going to happen in the potential-packed few moments between the
time you open the door and say ‘Hi.’”
Annie says it well: “A guy who hasn’t put any thought into how he
looks for a date hasn’t put any thought into me.”
Dan warns women: “Too dressy is not good because a guy’s never going
to dress up for a date. If a girl is really dressed up, and we haven’t
decided where we’re going, I feel like I have to take her to a really
nice place, which puts a lot of financial pressure on a guy.”
Both men and women agree: Figure out what you’ll be doing and dress
the part, keeping in mind that casual equals chic.
